December’s Scripture!

Time to move on, believe it or not! First, let me say, you’re doing great!!! Whether or not you’ve been able to totally memorize each passage, just think of the time you HAVE put in to securing scripture into your heart and mind! That’s AWESOME!   That’s the goal!

We have a disconnect in our culture with the word “anoint.” Its essence is to pour on, smear all over, or rub in. God’s Old Testament practice of anointing one for a particular role had two purposes –

– to signify to all that this person had been selected for this role by God and was acting with His authority, AND

– to impress upon the person being anointed that he wasn’t acting alone, for God had been poured on, smeared all over, and rubbed in him.

In our passage Jesus joins Isaiah’s original anointing statement. Let’s join them and focus our lives on it.

For December:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18-19 ESV)
